I love it. I had the smothered chicken wings with candied yams and cabbage. And my fiancé had the beef short ribs.. the food was great, the decor was beautiful the vibe and the energy was just as equally great. I’ll be back for the food and the hospitality.. thanks you guys are doing a great job..
I had the fried chicken, greens and Mac and cheese.
The food was really good. The service needs a little work. Server did her best but was not very knowledgeable about the menu.
No option for a diet pop so I had to settle for water
They should consider adding sweet tea.
The menu is missing fried catfish.
When we walked it, the environment was kind of stark. ( no music was playing) I think they should start playing music as soon as the door opens.
They have a nice patio which is a great touch for a Saturday brunch on the southside. I’d definitely go again
Food was hot and made fresh to order. It was tasteful and seasoned. The server was very pleasant and attentive to everyone needs that was dinning with our party. We all will return.
I took my mother, sister, niece, and my daughter to Chicago on a whim. We originally planned to eat at Oowees. Google maps took us to Gladys first, even though we put in Owees. So we finally found Owees but they had an hour and half wait to even get on the list to dine in. We went back to Gladys. The menu said everything is made to order, so there will be a wait. So we waited. We conversed, the girls complained, we checked tiktoks, my mom and sis took a drag, and then the food started to come out. My Mama's plate looked so damn good and hot I had to cover it up from taking a bite. They serve real chicken wings y'all (I really hate wingettes) !! The portion sizes are normal for most restaurants. I think we get wrapped up in the fast food portion sizes not realizing that this is enough. All of our food was hot, it felt like we waited for our mama to finish cooking dinner on a Sunday afternoon. The Mac was perfect...I don't know why folks think Mac is supposed to be salty, sweet, garlicky or spicy....it is not supposed to be that. Gladys Mac was cheesy, you can taste the sharpness of the cheddar, creamy, hot, and rich..it was pure perfection. They were just right for my sweet and smooth Yams. My smothered pork chop was definitely smothered! I might be ok in this world if I can eat greens and cabbage cooked this well more often. The cornbread! I wanted a pan To-go!!! The only con is that there are no free refills. If we did take-out we would have one can each and we wouldn't go buy more cans...we would drink water or whatever is at home. The wait was challenging too. It was a familiar wait...I felt like I was supposed to be pulling weeds or cutting the grass before dinner ....but again the food was 100% worth the wait. Pic is of my sister's plate.
The real deal old school Gladys! Checked out the new menu & was not disappointed. We were late picking up our takeout order so we decided to sit down & eat. Was great because we got to speak with the owner herself who also cooked our food.
Salmon croquettes were made from fresh, not canned fish. Homemade biscuits are yummy! Hash browns more like smothered potatoes my mama used to make. I’m eating as I type this trying not to get food on my phone. Lol
And I’m adding one more thing. They have an outdoor PATIO! Nice
The meal was cold. Had a chicken thigh, that was baked with no sauce or gravy. The Green beans taste like can, served with a small piece of beef roast that was tender and tasty. The corn bread was plain, I like mine a little sweet tasty, not dry. The peach cobbler was fantastic and the cake was good. I'll have to try your collard greens and yams and cobbler no meats.
Heard about this place and finally got a chance to dine in there tonight. I am really glad I did. It's such a clean, beautiful, cozy place. I had the smothered pork chops with collards greens and red beans and rice. The food was great. The homade gravy on the pork chops was the best I have ever had. 😋 Everything was so tasty, and to top it off was delicious homade peach cobbler for dessert. The service was spot on, Angela. My waitress was so friendly and one of the best servers around. She really keeps on top of anything needed, refills on pop and water, and extra napkins all showing up when needed without having to ask, truly the mark of a very attentive and professional server. Glady's is an absolute gem in the Southside of Chicago. Can't wait to dine here again, I think I will become a regular here.
I am so happy this spot opened! The food and service were both on point! The fried pork chop was well seasoned and cooked to perfection! The home made biscuits were amazing as well. I will definitely be back! They also have an all you can eat Sunday Brunch!
